Reports began coming in early Saturday morning pinpointing the scene of the crime to be the parking lot of Elation Real Estate headquarters in Pleasanton. Authorities believe that at least 100 boxes, bags, folders and bins full of sensitive documents where shredded right in site in a brazen daytime event.
Eye witnesses reported over a dozen Elation agents were involved. Car after car was seen driving through the parking lot while Elation agents would unload documents from the vehicles.
A big box truck was parked onsite and the documents where being shredded right on site for all to see.
An anonymous passerby said, “It felt like a scene from a movie… cars pulling up, throwing boxes of papers out the window, and then speeding off. Kinda makes you wonder what was in those boxes!”
As it turns out, this is an annual event put on by Elation. As a benefit to their clients, Elation provides free shredding services each and every year. It is an opportunity to declutter your garage and office and get rid of all of those old documents collecting dust and cobwebs. Many clients brought old tax returns, personal records, confidential documents, receipts, pay stubs, bills, and whatever other paper products they wanted to dispose of.
It was also a chance to dispose of e-waste. Old computers, broken monitors, printers, wires, and cables were all taken.
Convenience was definitely a factor as participants were able to drive up, have a team of agents empty their trunks and back seats, and then drive off to continue their day. For those that wanted to stay awhile were welcomed with open arms. They were offered coffee and donuts from The Jelly Donut in Pleasanton, music, and great conversation.
If you missed the event this time, don’t worry! Elation will be back again with another opportunity in either April or October of next year… maybe even both!
