The Tri-Valley Turkey Burn, hosted by the Rotary Club of Pleasanton North, is back for it’s 7th year! And this year, Elation Real Estate is the Presenting Sponsor!
Last year, because of the pandemic and shelter-in-place orders, the event was Virtual. That meant that everyone who participated simply ran around their neighborhood with friends and family while others ran around their neighborhoods. That’s as close as we could come to a community event.
This year, we are excited to welcome everyone back in-person to Pleasanton’s beautiful Ken Mercer Sports Park.
The Tri-Valley Turkey Burn (TVTB) is a family-friendly run, walk, or stroll event on Thanksgiving morning. Whether you run, walk, or stroll, it is a great opportunity to burn off those calories ahead of the big Thanksgiving feast.
The course starts off and winds through the beautiful Ken Mercer Park, continuing off road through Pleasanton, and returning to the park to finish! Enjoy the autumn color! Get out with family or friends! Or make new friends!
Entries include age-based pricing and is extremely affordable ($10 for adults, $5 for youth, and kids under 10 for free). You’ll have the choice to cover a distance of either 5K or 10K. Infants in strollers and dogs on leashes are always welcomed.
Let me take an aside for a minute to explain a little bit about the foundation of Rotary Club Activities. Rotarians channel their commitment to service both at home and abroad through these five Avenues of Service:
Youth Services, has been officially recognized as the Fifth Avenue of Service by Rotary International. This formal action was taken in Chicago during the April 2010 meeting of the Council on Legislation, the legislative arm of Rotary International which meets every three years. Lee Denlinger, a former member of the Rotary Club of Pleasanton North, wrote legislation that created Rotary International’s 5th Avenue of Service, Youth Services. This legislation changed Rotary International’s Constitution and provides a coordinated focus for youth and young adult programs locally and internationally.
Why am I telling you all of this? Because of this tie in, the Pleasanton North Rotary Club has a special connection to Youth Services, as the home club of the 5th Avenue of Service. And so, since its inception, the Tri-Valley Turkey Burn has always benefited Youth Services. All monies raised by this event are used to support local youth service activities in and around the Tri-Valley. This includes, but is not limited to, scholarships, student of the month, speech contests, leadership camps, etc.
And if that wasn’t enough, the event also encourages participants to bring non-perishable food donations which will be collected and donated to Tri-Valley Haven. T ri-Valley Haven creates homes safe from abuse, contributes to a more peaceful society one person, one family, one community at a time. Together, we build a world without violence.
They would greatly appreciate donations of the following food items to assist in their annual Holiday Food Distribution for the Tri-Valley area community: Instant mashed potatoes, stuffing mix, sweet potatoes, green beans, cranberries, mandarin oranges, pumpkin pie mix, evaporated milk, chicken broth, turkey gravy, Jell-O.
The absolute best part of this event is the Customizable Race Bib. This has become such an important tradition of the event. The bib says “I am thankful for…” and then leaves a big open space below for participants to get create and write, color or draw exactly what they are thankful for this season. Bibs can be decorated at home or the morning of the event at our Bib Decorating Table.
Race packets will be available for pick-up the day before at Ken Mercer Sports Park.
This event wouldn’t be possible without the generious support of its Sponsors! For the sponsors, it is a unique opportunity to market directly to 2,000 fitness-minded, family-oriented Tri-Valley residents as well as to hundreds of thousands through our social media, print and television advertising. There is a variety of sponsorship levels so there’s something for every business and every budget. Every contribution makes a difference to Tri-Valley Youth programs. Each sponsor will have the opportunity to display their business the morning of the event in the Sponsor Expo area.
